Whether you call it gratitude, thanksgiving or appreciation, it is important to feel thankful for everything that we receive. At the end of each day, take a look at all the successes no matter how small. Make a list of them. Find at least 5 and write them down.
Amazingly, the more successes you notice, the more keep coming to you. The more you whine and complain, you will notice unsatisfactory results. Make sure to notice how many lives were involved in a success.
Here's a simple example:
You hired a plumber to fix a leaky faucet. Of course, the job is done to your satisfaction because that is what you envisioned taking place. Make sure to thank him for the job done, and count that as one of your successes for the day.
Don't go overboard on this next step, but stop and think for a moment who else was involved in creating that success. The company that he works for, the person setting up the appointment, the manufacturer of the parts and all the people who helped in creating those parts. Take a moment to send a mental "Thank-you" to the whole crew. Your appreciation goes a long way in making others feel good about themselves.
